Pancakes for Kids

Fresh pancakes brought smiles to kids, families and even staff for the second year in a row thanks to IHOP. The company generously served pancakes inside Cincinnati Children’s Family Resource Center to kick off its annual Free Pancake Day. Nearly 100 families stopped by for the tasty treats. Check out our Q&A with IHOP’s Brian Haddix.

What motivated you to support Cincinnati Children’s in this way?

I have taken a special interest in Cincinnati Children’s as it has become important in my own personal life with both of my sons. My oldest son was born with a hemiofacial microsomia and my youngest was born at 30 weeks and spent seven weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU.) Cincinnati Children’s helped a lot with my oldest and has become incredibly important to me.

What was your favorite part of the Pancake Party that your team hosted at the medical center for kids, families and staff?

The pancake party is one of our favorite times out of all of our Free Pancake Day events as we get to go out and give back to those that may not be able to get to one of our restaurants on that day.

What do you hope families took away from the experience?

I hope that the families who were able to experience the time with us at Cincinnati Children’s realized that people out there really do care.

What would you say to others about the importance of giving back?

You never realize what circumstance people are going through or are going to be going through. I never would have imagined seven weeks of my life would have been spent in a NICU. Sometimes the little things are what gets us through that day. In this case, I hope something as simple as a pancake can bring a smile to the face of a child that is facing something we cannot even imagine.
